Bankman-text Fried's to the former general counsel was deemed witness tampering, and Judge Kaplan found him guilty of obstruction of justice in connection with it. Additionally, the judge rejected Bankman-Fried's assertion that he was unaware that Alameda was making use of FTX's client monies.

A victim named Sunil Kavuri spoke up during the sentence process to discuss the effects of Bankman-action Fried's on both him and other people. At least three people killed themselves as a result of FTX, according to Kavuri.
Prior to the sentence, Bankman-Fried also gave remarks in which he described how years of arduous labor on the part of his colleagues had been destroyed by a string of poor choices. The creator of FTX emphasized their love and excitement for the company and specifically mentioned a few of colleagues by name. In addition, Bankman-Fried acknowledged that he had some of the blame for the liquidity issue and that, although he knew FTX would have survived, Alameda would not have.
